Ireland's Litter Problem

What Croke Park would look like full of Dublin's litter

Ireland is a beautiful country and in the past years there has been some progress in tackling our litter problem, but still an alarming amount of us drop our rubbish on the ground.

Did you know:

  • Every year in Ireland, €100 million is spent cleaning litter from our streets.
  • Last year, 35,000 tonnes of litter was collected from Dublin alone
  • If you were to gather all the litter picked up every year and put it together it would fill Croke Park!
  • If you lined all the bags of rubbish that have been removed from Dublin/Wicklow mountains since 2007, they would stretch 120km.
  • The government receives about 5,000 written complaints from tourists every year about litter!
  • 700,000 sea birds are killed worldwide by litter every year.

However there are many things you can do to help tackle Ireland's litter problem.
